Your Responsibilities:

CML are looking for a Project Manager to support a growing portfolio of works on the Eastern Civils Asset Management Framework, taking charge of the coordination of multiple high volume reactive projects. Working on the Civils minor works projects, the ideal candidate will have experience working in a high pressure and reactive environment.

Duties of the role include:

  • The Project Manager (Design) will be responsible for the coordination of temporary and permanent works design and interfaces within the construction team, for a variety of civil engineering projects including earthworks, drainage and structures disciplines.

  • Interpret client remits to identify design requirements and agree the scope of works with the client prior to progressing design works.

  • Liaise with sub-contract design consultants, briefing them on our requirements, and obtain fee proposals for completing the agreed scope of works.

  • Place sub-contract orders with design consultancies for engineering and temporary works design remits. Orders should be awarded to the most appropriate consultant, based on the competency and value displayed in specific proposals and based on past performance.

  • Specify and monitor the timely delivery of site and ground investigation works by CML operational staff that is required to inform design delivery

  • Monitor and manage the production of design information against the contract programme, providing client updates via the agreed reporting mechanisms (both internal and client reporting)

  • Review sub-contract designer’s deliverables to ensure designs fulfil the clients remit and comply with the standards and regulations applicable to the contract.

  • Carry-out a technical review of all documents submitted by sub-contract design engineers and approve / respond as necessary to deliver a design submission in accordance with NwR Specifications and Standards.

  • Represent CML at regular progress meetings with the client to report on progress and deal with queries. Update and maintain design progress within CML’s ‘Insight’ database and relevant client design tracking tools.

  • Maintain input to CML’s information systems in accordance with company procedures.

  • Provide support to the construction team as required during the planning and construction phase – attend pre-start project meetings to brief construction engineers on the design and construction drawings.

  • Take part in internal CML progress meetings as required.

  • Maintain all design correspondence in electronic format in section ‘3.1 - Designers’ of the individual job folders – enquiries, orders, fee proposals, email correspondence, design deliverables.

  • Any other duties as may be reasonably required within the Design Team

Person Specification:

To be successful in the role you will be able to maintain and develop client relationships on the basis of mutual trust and high standards of project performance, promoting existing and new work opportunities.

The ideal candidate will have:

Qualifications:

  • Degree (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering / Structural Engineering / Building Engineering / Project Management or other relevant engineering subject.

  • Professional Accreditation (ICE or IStructE) (Desirable) and ready to support others with their development.

Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years experience in rail sector.

  • 2 plus years’ experience working within the railway industry in the delivery & management the delivery of rail projects.

  • 3 plus years in the delivery and management of Civil Engineering projects.

  • Experience working as part of a team and coaching less experienced team members.

Required Competencies:

  • Chartered Engineer PTS holder - may have held CEM, CRE (C) or CRE (D) roles in the past

  • MS Office Skills - Essential
